Now that I've got the computer back, I think I'll try the Game Thread thing. . . .
Houston at Atlanta
Andy Pettitte vs. Horacio Ramirez
1st Inning Not that I would advance the argument that Taveras has been flawless in center, but Skip Caray was wrong--and perhaps unnecessarily harsh--when he said that Larry Jones' double "hit him in a bad spot--the glove." Replays showed that the ball was just past Taveras' glove, and that he had probably sprinted 30 yards.
Hate ya, Skip!

2nd inning
Lane very solid defensively in the second, especialy on the Brian Jordan flyout. . . .Pettitte looks very much in a comfort zone, only Chipper has hit the ball well. Everett's DP was his first of the year.rastronomicals - May 7, 2005
3rd inning
Beautiful bunt by Pettite to move Ausmus up . . .Furcal's a drunk, as we all know, but I'll give him credit for his arm, throwing out Taveras from the outfield rim is not easy, I'm sure. . .
I can think of a pitcher of recent employ by Houston who just would have crumpled after giving up a leadoff hit to the pitcher. Pettitte, though, had no problems. Again, he looks like he's easing through. . .

4th inning
Berkman was flailing . . .Morgan Ensberg has a very finely-tuned eye at the plate. When it's in place, as it was to take the walk this inning, he can look very wise. But sometimes it gets out of whack, and for 10 day to two-week period he'll take pitches over the plate for strike three and swing at pitches under the zone.
You never hear the media say this . . .

Bottom of the Fourth
Nice play by Ensberg, although he couldn't nab Franco. . .Man I am so tired of hearing the Clemens-Yankees trade talk. The Yankees have nothing to offer the Astros, and if Clemens is not a total prefabricator, he should have no interest in going anywhere. Besides, I believe that cLane knows that trading the Rocket would be box office suicide.
Man, another pitcher with a good ballgame under his belt so far, but behind. . .

Sorry about the delay there, the attempt to post a whimsical image caused all kinds of problems. . . 3 - 0 now, and I see where this is going. . . .another stellar pitching effort wasted.
I certainly wish that we had the bats to make up for Lamb's defensive ineffectiveness. . . .

Mini-rally there, I was thinking maybe possibly we coulda, maybe. . .with the double of Franco's shoulder and all. . .oh never mind . . .Good idea getting Lidge in there, he was talking about a little bit of a dead arm during his loss, rather than letting him sit until the next situation where we're up close and late . . .
But he continues to give up extra base hits, he looks off-balance, I guess it's still the flu. . .
This team without an effective Lidge could be scary. . .Work through it Brad. . .
He did, kinda

Well, that was exciting . . . Kolb really is a lousy closer and the Braves are gonna have problems down the road with him.I thought strike three on Taveras was low, but I've always been philosophical on that kind of stuff--you've got to play well enough so that one bad call doesn't beat you.
Pettitte is the hard luck loser, falling to 2 - 3. Horacio Ramirez wins it and evens his record at 2 - 2 after looking better than he was vs. the moribund Houston lineup. Julio Franco, your buffest grandpa, had the only homer of the game, and had the outstanding defensive play at first when he stretched to receive Furcal's sailing throw to nail Lamb in the eighth.
This was fun; I'll try to do it tomorrow, too.
