Garner sought the umpiring crew for clarification after the game and was told Munson had touched the ball before it went into the dugout, giving Cabrera home plate. Garner said Cabrera would have had to stay at third base had the umpires not ruled Munson had touched the ball again.
Um, hello you jerkoff, your catcher just said he did not touch the ball. You never, EVER believe the umpiring crew over your own catcher. As a player, I thought you would have known that it is bull when your manager second-guesses you. As a scrap-iron manager, you should have never let that happen. I've been a fan of you up until this point. Now, hell if I'm not the one leading the "Fire Garner" brigade.
Lastly, Munson should know the rules better then that. Looks like Ausmus and Munson will be sitting down for some hardcore Catching 101.

I've been looking at the rules
and found this:3.14
Members of the offensive team shall carry all gloves and other equipment off the field and to the dugout while their team is at bat. No equipment shall be left lying on the field, either in fair or foul territory.
I haven't looked at the replay of that wild pitch yet, but I'm reading that the ball clearly hit a weight left in the Marlins' on-deck circle, then bounced where Munson couldn't grab it. Munson said he didn't touch the ball before it went crazy.
If Gar's gonna protest, he's got, what, 58 minutes left?

that probably would be too much trouble. After all, it's only a loss.Pupura and Garner can't seriously keep up this charade that the Astros are playing to get back in the race this season if they don't file a protest.

That they didn't protest because it was a judgement call. The umpire thought that Munson knocked the ball into the dugout after it was already a wild pitch which would give him 2 bases. The umpire obviously missed the call but I don't think you can protest missed calls because if you could you would protest balls and strikes and close plays etc.TimStros - August 5, 2007

that balls and strikes were one thing, and then there was everything else.Though I never knew about this one base/two base thing, so my knowledge is a bit limited. . . .

Discouraging
This episode is rather discouraging. While I entertained no illusions that the Astros could make any kind of run at the playoffs this year, I at least was willing to play along with the charade after the Astros refused to make any big moves to rebuild.Well, so much for the charade.
