| Roy Oswalt | Pedro Martinez |
| 14 - 6, 3.35 | 1 - 0, 3.60 |
Now here's a pitching matchup to be excited about! Roy Oswalt VS Pedro Martinez! I have to admit, I'm a Pedro fan. I don't know why, I just am. I know he's cocky(not Barry Bonds cocky), but I still like him. I'd like for him to get shelled today for about 9 runs though. The Astros are looking for Roy to stop their current 4 game skid in which they've given up 33 runs while scoring 9.
Last time out, Roy showed that he was human giving up 5 runs in just 5.2 innings earning a no decision. Before his last outing, Roy was 6 - 0 in his last 7 games started while only allowing 5 total runs in those games. Hopefully Roy can return to that form.
Pedro on the other hand has only made 1 start this season after being out of commision for 11 months due to rotator cuff surgery. Pedro did well in his last start going 5 innings and giving up 2 runs. His fast ball isn't what it used to be, but he's still got good control and knows how to use the pitches he has effectively to keep hitters from getting good wood on the ball.

The way the Astros have played this week
Pedro Martinez does not have to be good to be effective.Joe in Birmingham - September 9, 2007
Pedro
shutting down the Astros with 82 mph heat. The Astros have faced two guys with an assortment of 70 - 85 mph pitches today and yesterday, and the hitters fail miserably. Of course, both pitchers will be in the hall of fame.clack - September 9, 2007
I have to be honest
I just turned on the Astros game... Texans leading 10-0 through the first half.Stros Bro - September 9, 2007
17-0 in the third quarter
Score scrolled at bottom of TV screen. I have no idea how good or bad Kansas City is supposed to be this year, or even who was favored in the game, but a 17-0 lead against ANY team is a major improvement for the Texans (terrible name for a football team).Joe in Birmingham - September 9, 2007
Now 17-3
Texans were actually favored in this game... but only by 3 pointsStros Bro - September 9, 2007
Here we go again
Astros have bases loaded in the fifth with two outs. Will they blow it again?Yes they do. Lamb flies to center. Three runners stranded.
Carlos Lee popped to first in the inning to continue his slumping ways. Mets commentators flabbergasted that Lee never left the batters box.

Mets going for second home sweep of the year
If Mets win today, it will be only the second home series sweep of the season for them. The first against a National League team.Another Dishonor in the making for the Astros.

Luke Scott
Solo Home Run over center field fence. Nice to get that start over Chris Burke today.Joe in Birmingham - September 9, 2007
Astros threaten
After a single and what shoud have been an error but wasn't called that, the Astros have runners (Ausmus and Oswalt) at first and second with no outs. Top of the order coming to bat.Joe in Birmingham - September 9, 2007

Slumping Carlos Lee
grounds to shortstop to end the inning. That's the second time today the Astros have loaded the bases and could not score.
I can remember three times yesterday they loaded the bases and could not score.
Irritating.

Astros have stranded 12 runners
in six innings.Even if you subtract six runners and two innings for the bases loaded situations, that leaves six runners LOB in four innings.
The only Astros RBI was Luke Scott driving in Luke Scott on a solo homerun.

Chris Burke pinch hit
for Mike Lamb.Flied to center
Burke stayed in game. Playing short; Loretta to third.

Roy Oswalt leaves after 7 innings
Astrso trail 4-1.Roy Oswalt gave up 9 hits; threw 106 pitches; walked 1; struck out 4.

Hunter Pence 0 for 5 today.
following an 0 for 4 Saturday.Joe in Birmingham - September 9, 2007
What do you make of this?
We all agree that Lee, Pence and Lamb are good players that should be on the team next year, but they are a combined 1-12 today with 18 LOB between them. Luke's got his RBI... Berkman has two hits, Loretta has two hits, hell, even Ausmus has two hits.entropic soul - September 9, 2007
More infield changes
One nice thing about having five or six second basemen (utility infielders) is flexibility. Bruntlett moves to short, Burke to second. Biggio left to a standing ovation for his last game in NYC.Joe in Birmingham - September 9, 2007
Trever Miller
Trever Miller has 1-2-3 eighth. His record is 0-0. Surely he is setting some kind of record for appearances without a decision.Maybe the Astros will score four to give him a win today.
I like that rally cry: "Score Four!"

Oswalt outfoxed himself?
This quote from Roy O:"The pitch to Mo (Alou) was a little bit up," Oswalt (14-7) said. "The ball had a scuff on it after it hit the warning track (on Beltran's double). I was going to try to use it to my advantage and make it move around. It didn't.
"It stayed straight. I should have thrown it out and stayed with the game plan I had at the beginning of the game."
Trying to take advantage of a scuffed ball, huh? It's funny that Oswalt would admit it.
