Sadly, there are no Astros and a lot of NL Central rivals on the ballot. Congrats to Soto and me, though (because he's my keeper league catcher for many years to come).

4 of 9 are Reds - that's crazy

What if they were good again?
I won’t hold my breath because Volquez and Cueto are under the thumb of Baker. The same goes for base cloggers like Votto.

Well, Voto has been able to preserve his "base clogging" ability,
even while Baker wants him to swing away. But I have ZERO faith that the Reds’ pitching corps will survive the Baker regime. Enough terrible things can happen to young pitchers without subjecting them to 130+ pitch games. Baker virtually ensures none of them will survive. Look at the current Cubs – only Zambrano has gone on to have a truly successful career.

Jocketty
They have to hope he’ll somehow reduce the Dusty effect.

IMO, it's ridiculous that Volquez isn't rated higher.
He should be no worse than No. 2 for NL ROY, and I would have a tough time deciding between him and Soto. Volquez’s performance is good enough to be in the mix for Cy Young Award. 17 wins on a losing team. 3.27 ERA in almost 200 innings. 3.59 FIP, strike out rate over 9. That is just outstanding for a rookie pitcher. I’ve got to think that he is hurt by competing with other Reds’ players for the ROY. Sure, Votto is a good player. But he plays 1st base, which isn’t a premium position, and he played only a partial season.

It's because Volquez isn't technically a rookie

now that you mention it, you may be right.
he may have a few too many innings with the Rangers. so why is he on the SBN ballot?
clack - November 4, 2008
I think SBN has its own department of Homeland Security
answering that question would compromise security.
I really wanted to know who gave Yost the second place votes and what their reasoning was. One of the guys is from the Diamondbacks site but he wouldn’t really explain himself. An offhanded comment by Al at loopy BCB makes me think that one of the guys over at beyondtheboxscore is in charge somehow (not Sky).

I don't think I'm breaking any rules
So I’ll explain the process.
A week before the season ended we got to submit our own ballots and RJ Anderson of Beyond the Box Score and DRays Bay but tallied the votes. So if Volquez shouldn’t have been on the ballot then it wasn’t RJ’s fault, but those who voted for him erroneously.
