No, not that type of streaking. The Astros are actually starting to come around offensively and have scored no less than 5 runs in any of their last 5 games; ultimately winning all of them. The Astros now sit just 1 game behind .500 and in sole possession of 4th place in the NL Central.
After Saturdays loss to the Colorado Rockies, Hunter Pence was hitting just over .200 at .206 and was finally starting to look like a decent big league hitter. After today's 5-3 win over the Reds(in which Hunter Pence hit 1st), Hunter is sitting at .268. Not where he was last season, but definitely a positive number after his pathetic start to the season. Over the last 5 games, Hunter has went 9 for 19 with 5 RBI's, a home run and 3 doubles. Pence had just 13 hits and 2 RBI's through the 1st 16 games of the season. Pence has been a great addition to the team for the last week or so and has played a big part in the Astros success over this win streak. I'm not going to go as far as saying he's the reason the Astros are doing so well... but obviously his additions aren't hurting the team any more.
Tomorrow the Astros take on the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:05 PM in St. Louis and with a win will sit at .500 for the 1st time this season. The Cardinals started off the season hot, but have since cooled down, losing 4 of the last 5 games(although, they are leading in Pittsburgh 5-1 at this time). The Astros could move ahead of the Cardinals in the division with a 3 game series sweep of the Red Birds. I know it's kind of dumb to even mention it, but the Astros pitching has been pretty good as of late and the Cardinals are having a tough time keeping opposing teams off the scoreboard. Hopefully the Astros surging offense can do some damage at Busch Stadium.

I personally would love a sweep of the cardinals
to shut up that stupid cardinals fan from a week or 2 back. Man that guy was annoying :)

agreed
But… they are classier than us… right?

I'm not going to judge all Cards' fans....
by that guy. I check vivaelbirdos.com every so often, and they have some intelligent fans on that board. But you’re right, that guy who kept posting about Backe and Pujols was obnoxious.

There’s always bad apples…

Another good thing.
Both pitching call ups, Byrdak and Cassel, have performed well. Cassel retired something like 17 in a row at one point in his start. Byrdak came into a critical situation with 1 runner on base in the 6th and no outs, and Griffey, Phillips, Dunn coming up to bat. That is where you really need a good lefthanded reliever, since Griffey and Dunn are two of the more powerful lefthanded bats in the game. Byrdak, whose glasses give him a bit of the “Wild Thing” Vaughn look, also had a great pick off move.
Give Wade some credit for signing these two guys as depth for the major league club.

Byrdak
batting 1.000 with a 0.00 ERA! let’s keep this kid around!
this little run is nice and hopefully we can come out of the weekend series with St. Louis with at least a .500 record. frankly, if we win just three of the next six games, that’ll give us an above .500 road trip, which i’d be happy with. if Roy and Valverde have really turned a corner and will stay as their old selves, and if we can continue to get more quality starts than not out of our other four starting pitching slots, this success should be sustainable. we won’t always be this hot with the bats, but if Lee starts raking while Tejada and Berkman cool off and if Wiggy comes back and does his thing, hopefully we won’t run into too many cold stretches like we had to start the season.
it’s easy to be positive when you win five in a row, but the fact that right now the makeup of the team is exactly what we were told it would be and we’re having so much success, makes it seem like no fluke.
Go Astros!
