Astros Rally : Win 6 Straight

Wow what a game.  The Astros now sit at the .500 mark after beating the Cardinals 3-2 in a game that ended as the midnight bell rang in St. Louis.  The game was scheduled to start at 7:15 PM, but due to rain(and St. Louis not having a roof), the game was post-poned about 2 hours and started closer to 9:15 PM.

Shawn Chacon... is he for real?  Pretty much everyone has been saying "It's not going to last, he'll return to the old Chacon soon", but when do you start believing?  Now?  Chacon has 5 great starts under his belt this season and has yet to give up more than 3 runs in a game.  His ERA is sitting at .245 and yet he still has failed to notch a win.  I don't know if this is the Chacon we'll see all season, but I know that I like what I've seen so far...

Kind of odd game last night... both teams were unable to score runs for 8 innings in a row.  The Cardinals scored 2 in the 1st against Chacon and then couldn't score another.  The Astros went scoreless for the 1st 8 innings and then decided to turn on the bats... good timing.  In the 9th inning Erstad got a base hit and then was followed by Miguel Tejada's 2nd triple of the season.  Berkman followed with a sac fly to left field scoring Tejada and then Lee came in and left the yard, putting the Astros ahead for the final blow.  It was about midnight at this time and I was too tired to really celebrate, but a fist pump was due, and so I gave it.  Valverde came in and sealed the deal(albeit, not without trouble).

It would have been really nice to see Valverde come in and just shut the door, but that didn't happen.  I was happy to see that Cooper just decided to put Pujols on.  If Pujols would have tied or put the Cardinals ahead there, more people would be calling for Cooper's head.  That didn't happen and Cooper looks to have done a good job on the night.

Yeah, it was a pretty nice game

At least in the 9th inning it was. :p
With Oswalt and Wainwright pitching today, looks like it might be another low scoring game. This one is actually supposed to be on tv here, (I Think) so I’m excited about that. Bourn should be back today so that leaves only one bench player needed on the field. Who do we take: Erstad, Blum or Loretta? I think I’m about done with Blum—at least for a little while. He’s making a few too many errors and not hitting much lately.

Wainright is a righty...

I predict Blum will be out there to get the left/righty matchup.

I think you gotta give more credit to Valverde.

The leadoff dude got an infield hit, then stole 2nd.
He then advanced to 3rd on a groundout.
He got a huge strikeout of Ankiel.
Put Pujols on.
And then got Duncan to pop out.
I thought he did a great job, considering what could’ve happened.
No balls left the infield and he didn’t unintentionally walk anyone.

great win.

yeah...

I do wish Valverde could have gotten done in a way that didn’t have me sweating so much. But he actually did a pretty good job.

It's not

a Jose Valverde outing, until he gives you a heart attack.

Regardless of the result.

it wouldn't matter to me

If he broke a guys bat causing him to hit a dribbler in for a hit and then the next guy hits a pop up that hits a bird and causes it to land safely and then the next guy hits a grounder to berkman that a squirrel runs out and causes him to reach safely.

Obviously I’m going overboard, but my point is… he needs to have some easy innings… no excuses.

I get your point lol

but he got the job done.

Yep

This time.. he’s now 4 for 7 in save opps.

Cooper won my heart

My dad and I were watching the game, and I don’t think we’ve ever cheered so loudly as we did the moment Cooper waved four fingers at Valverde, unless it was when he was waving to get Towles as far as humanly possibly away from home plate to catch those four pitches. That was the one thing that used to drive me crazy with Garner.

I completely agree

with both of your statements… well, except that Cooper won my heart.
