Andy Pettitte notched career post season win #17 last night in helping the Yankees beat Philadelphia in Game 3 of the World Series. Sure, seventeen victories is a record or something like that- but more importantly he drove in a run with a fifth inning single.
Now, the way I see it, Andy has 186 career regular season at bats. Of those 186, 147 were with the Astros. His sole career homer came as an Astro.
Basically Pettitte learned how to hit while he was an Astro. So you're welcome, New York. Don't underestimate his time spent as an Astro and how it helped the Yanks get halfway to a World Championship.

This photograph from earlier in the week appeared in a NY Daily News column. Andy Pettitte’s sons and their cousins join in the taunting of Pedro Martinez, with “Who’s Your Daddy?” painted on their bare chests. I was surprised by the photo. I’m not sure why—-after all, they are teenagers doing what teenagers do at ballparks. I suppose I expected their father to tell them about respecting the pitching fraternity.

I was thinking, Astros didn’t want to commit to a two year contract (for 2006 and 2007 I think it was) for Andy Pettitte. Some thought Pettitte was about done as pitcher; and here he is four years later pitching critical post-season games.

I don’t think an extra couple of years would of mattered, Pettite wanted to return to the Yankees. He had been seen in NY looking for an apartment during or before negotiations even begin.

Too bad for Pettitte
his hitting is what led to that season ending injury. I think we’d go to the WS that year too. It was in 2004, the year we had Beltran and Kent.
