This was, by far, the most difficult category for me to make my selections and I believe it was the same for HLP. Although we ended up texting out a resolution, I know that we ended up with different picks.
At some point during that insanely depressing text conversation, I realized that I didn't have as firm of grasp of the ROY pulse because there were no Astros with possible hopes of claiming the title. Apathy really got the best of me in this incident. I guess next year we could have Gervacio, Jason Castro, and someone I'm not thinking of at this second.
The fun part of this vote is playing: can you spot the homer-ism? Not that I'm lambasting anyone for it, but there a couple that jumped out at me and made me snicker a little.

OK, I don’t even know who Seth Smith is.
Someone who kind of impressed me is Chris Coghlan, and I might have voted for him just to be contrary. Part of my bias here is that he played a bunch against the Astros when he was hitting well, and he ripped us up. He also looked decent in the outfield.
Tommy Hanson is a terrific pitching prospect. But did he really pitch long enough this season to win the award. I say that without really looking it up. But my impression is that he didn’t enter the rotation until sometime after mid-season. I guess that is a perennial problem with ROY awards.

my top three
I don’t remember what order I put these guys in, but I believe I voted for: Coghlan, Happ and Fowler. Truth be told I didn’t remember Hanson when I gave DQ my ballot. I may have taken out Fowler and put in Hanson had I remembered him. I agree that Hanson not amassing all that many innings is a drawback to voting for him.

I would question the Randy Wells inclusion—-except you can’t really do that if you’re an Astros fan. He had an unnatural ability to get the Astros out. If he hadn’t pitched so many games against the Astros, people wouldn’t even talk about him as good rookie.
