I'll be interested to see whta this lineup does...
except for Tejada, there’s a lot of starters/platooned guys here.
TexSkins - March 10, 2009
Through 5 innings
Matsui is 0 for 2
Bourn is 0 for 2
Berkman is 0 for 2
Lee is 0 for 2
Pence is 0 for 2
Boone is 0 fo r2
Towles is 0 for 2
Smith starting at shortstop in place of Tejada is 1 for 2
Gall (pinch hitting) and Bourn ( bunt single) add hits in the 6th.

Definitely
With Bourn batting second, let’s see if he can continue his OBP growth
Evan Hochschild - March 10, 2009
that was quick
3-0 Braves in the first. Our top 3 go 1,2,3 with 2 K’s against Lowe. Moehler getting hit and Puma makes an error.
Just when will Coop lose it and really get mad?

Can it get worse than this?
It’s the sixrth inning. Braves have made wholesale changes to unknowns. Astros have ONE hit through fivie innings. Astros trail 4-1. I hope this does not continue into the regular season.
Query: Has a manager ever been fired during spring training?
Joe in Birmingham - March 10, 2009
I meant Astros trail 4-0
I accidentally counted the one hit as one run!!
but Astros set it right and scored one run in the sixth (on a 2 out bunt single) to make it 4-1 .

This is
beyond atrocious.
Evan Hochschild - March 10, 2009
Jason Smith gets his second hit in the game
Boone follows with a single

Johnson v. Boone
I’m a beliver that good players can jump straight from AA to majors. Is Chris Johnson that kind of player?
I’m thinking Johnson may beat out Aaron Boone for the third base spot, but i am not fully informed. Any insights?
Joe in Birmingham - March 10, 2009
Boone will be on the roster....
maybe he might play so badly in the regular season, he is released at some point. But Footer said that there isn’t much question that Boone will be on the roster because the Astros believe that they need a “veteran” leader to replace Ausmus and Loretta.
I have my doubts that Johnson is good enough to jump to the majors immediately. But I am pulling for him to look good enough that he has a chance at the major league roster. We can always hope.

I have my doubts about Johnson, too,
but what’s with this crap about “veteran leadership?” Berkman’s been in the league for eight seasons, isn’t he a veteran by now? What about Tejada? Or are you only a “veteran leader” if you both (1) no longer qualify for arbitration and (2) kinda suck? This is bullshit.

and Blum and Oswalt and Lee
and Matsui and Erstad and Moehler and Valverde and Wandy and maybe Oritz and Hampton
Joe in Birmingham - March 10, 2009
True
But Matsui doesn’t really suck, and Valverde and Wandy are still arb-eligible. Ortiz, Hampton, and Moehler are good candidates, but Erstad and Blum are the ones that makes the most sense.
The Astros have plenty of old dudes. I don’t really think the Astros need more of them.
Only_A_Lad - March 10, 2009
Assigned to Minor League Camp
Castro, James, Esposito and Perez
Joe in Birmingham - March 10, 2009
Astros lose 7-4
Busy Ninth

Joe in Birmingham - March 10, 2009
Bogusevic got a triple and 2 RBIs...
that’s good.
