Here's the storyline so far
Jose Capellan starts the game for the Astros. Santangelo (still no Rodriguez) is his catcher . Roy Halladay starts for Blue Jays.
Game going fine for Astros early.
Jason Smith starting at shortstop doubled and Carlos Lee serving as DH walked in the first. Astros didn’t score in the first.
Astros did score in the second inning as Edwin Maysonet, playing second base, hit a solo homerun off Halliday.
Capellan retired the Jays in order in the first.
Currently in the second inning Blue Jays have a runner via walk on first base with two outs. Scott Rolen batting. Rolen grounds to Smith at short , who flips to Maysonet at second to end the inning (It’s nice two guys competing for one spot play so well together) (and they are the two batters with hits today- both extra base variety).
was Michael Bourn, who left the game after going 0 for 4. Jose Capellan’s five -run fourth was extremely bad on paper, but it was one really bad inning in an otherwise good day.
I would have thought it would take some freak accident or horrific showing for Bourn to lose any playing time. But, the combination of him sucking and Abercrombie playing very well, I think Coop really has to seriously think about Abercrombie in the mix
Astros probably would have lost this one. Maysonet FIVE RBIs on two homeruns and a triple, plus solid play at second (plus scored one additional run afer the triple)

You are now caught up
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Blue Jays get FIVE straight hits in the fourth inning
Blue Jays have scored four runs and are still batting with a runner at third and only one out..
Until this inning, Jose Capellan had not allowed a single earned run. Maybe he lost a little focus after he gave up his first one.
Out two on a popup.
Blue Jays double adds a fifth run.
Pitching coach out to see Jose.
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Blue Jays 5, Astros 1, after four innings
Comeback time
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Ortiz nudging ahead of Capellan.
clack - March 21, 2009
Ortiz
Chugging ahead of Capellan
Although the Jays’ line-up seems have a lot more regulars than the Reds did yesterday…
Stephen Higdon - March 21, 2009
I don't want to be pessimistic...
But the Astros lineup today isn’t llikely to score 4 more runs. Other than Lee, they are all pretty much lighweight hitters.
clack - March 21, 2009
Yeah..
I guess the win streak stops at 1.
Stephen Higdon - March 21, 2009
Heh heh, will you be surprised
I have seen the future
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Maysonet 3-run Homerun
His second home run today (Both against Roy Halliday)
Astros lead 6-5!!!!!!!!!!
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Holy Crap!
You did see the future.
Stephen Higdon - March 21, 2009
It was easy
I heard the homerun call before I made the prediction
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
I respect that
Stephen Higdon - March 21, 2009
Maysonet
Cements himself as Astros back-up SS.
Stephen Higdon - March 21, 2009
I wish the boxscore would update
Or I weren’t too cheap to shell out the cash for the radio or tv.
Stephen Higdon - March 21, 2009
The first two runs of the inning scored with pinch runners,
the most amusing of which was Humberto Quintero pinch running for Carlos Lee.
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
What?
Stephen Higdon - March 21, 2009
Slow and slower!
clack - March 21, 2009
Wow
A. Arias has been impressive this spring…
Evan Hochschild - March 21, 2009
Edwin Maysonet strikes again
Only an RBI triple this time.
I see the future. Edwin Maysonet will be the player of the game.
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
9-5 Astros
as Lou Santanglo hits a two-run homerun
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
We might actually get a streak
But I don’t want to jinx anything.
The Pudge correlation is getting more significant by the day…and he hasn’t even played a game yet.
Stephen Higdon - March 21, 2009
Scott Downs
is a very good relief pitcher too
Evan Hochschild - March 21, 2009
The only Astro having a really bad day
was Michael Bourn, who left the game after going 0 for 4. Jose Capellan’s five -run fourth was extremely bad on paper, but it was one really bad inning in an otherwise good day.
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Arias -Capellan - Sampson- Wright - Hawkins - Geary - Valverde
Astros could have a good pitching staff this year. Arias waltzed through six batters today.
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
throw in Brocail
and you have quite the ’pen
Evan Hochschild - March 21, 2009
Through 8 innings
No Astro errors
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Byrdak pitching the ninth
He needs a good outing
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Lead off double
bad start
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Runners at first and third
no outs
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
RBI single between third and short
9-6
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Fly out to Kata in right field
Runners hold
One out
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Strike out
for out number 2
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
RBI Single
9-7
2 runners on base.
Winning run at the plate
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Ground out to end the game
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Bourn is dissapointing
I would have thought it would take some freak accident or horrific showing for Bourn to lose any playing time. But, the combination of him sucking and Abercrombie playing very well, I think Coop really has to seriously think about Abercrombie in the mix
baggs - March 21, 2009
ASTROS WIN 9-7
2 in a row
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
If Matsui had started instead of Maysonet
Astros probably would have lost this one. Maysonet FIVE RBIs on two homeruns and a triple, plus solid play at second (plus scored one additional run afer the triple)
Joe in Birmingham - March 21, 2009
Hand it to him....Maysonet stepped up big time (as Cooper likes to say).
I was pulling for Maysonet, because I prefer him over Smith….but I didn’t expect that kind of offensive outburst.
clack - March 21, 2009
