I posted this comment about Biggio and Bagwell.
"For Astros fans. Craig Biggio is considered to be a first ballot Hall of Famer, Jeff Bagwell is a maybe.
I’ve always held that the only factor preventing Bagwell from getting in immediately is the level of idiocy in the BBWAA. Bagwell deserves to get in on the first try, but that’s no prediction of what will actually happen.
i think its just the voters way of saying they’re not tops tops. I don’t think there is any other signicance other than that.
Views change over time but your right if you qualify you should get in when ever your name is up. There is a reason why names are kept on the ballot year after year.
but it’s an indication of recognition.Hell, DiMaggio didn’t get in on his first ballot, though, and plenty of other greats haven’t either.
But one would expect the greatest first baseman of his era to be elected quickly. And it pisses me off when baseball “experts” don’t get how great Bagwell was.
Great column a few years back by Jayson Stark on Bagwell...
…which I used to have around, but I guess I tossed it—it was an analysis of where he stood in relation to other great first basemen historically. Even strongly pro-Bags fans in the Central Time Zone would be a bit surprised to see just how well he measures up. I would imagine Stark will trot the content of that column out again as we get closer to Bags’s first year of eligibility.
The upshot is (and no surprise here): by any reasonably objective analysis, both Bags and Biggio deserve first-ballot selection.
Now, all we need to do is get the voters to actually undertake an objective analysis.;-)
Is that the Braves have a stronger farm system, don’t get down about the losses, they mean nothing. We are without El Caballo, and Miggy, I think it was a matter of time before Bud Norris had a bad outing, it will happen to everyone,
Nieve gives up 5 runs.
Didn’t see that coming. :/
Abercrombie already has 3 errors this Spring?

Only_A_Lad - March 6, 2009

to the ball
Only_A_Lad - March 6, 2009
oh, I thought you were talking about Nieve.
clack - March 6, 2009
wow
13-0 Mets.
That’s all we got? Two goddamn hits?
Only_A_Lad - March 6, 2009
that box score is very ugly.
Norris had been perfect in outings until today…and it looks like he got beat up a bit.

If it makes you feel any better...
I think two springs ago we were 19-10 or something like that. You all remember how the 2007 season worked out.

It has to do with WAR

Name/Rank/WAR
Bagwell: 20 79.6

I was just stating what I feel is the general public consensus on the two players. Not my opinion. Hence why I pointed out there WAR rankings.
In the end they may both get in first ballot, although some say they should wait on Bagwell just so they get in together.

I'll never understand the
First ballot consideration…if a player is good enough to get in, why does it matter which ballot he gets in on?

Good luck
Although they admitted two BPro people in, and Neyer.
