Armando Galarraga will face off against Roy Oswalt to try and stymie Team USA's chance to make up for 2006's rather dismal showing in the WBC. According to BPro, making it out of Round 1 gives USA the greatest odds of being crowned champions, but their odds of making it out of Round 1 unscathed were lower than that of Japan, the Domincan Republic, Cuba, and Korea. The Venezuelans represent Team USA's greatest challenger, so the Wizard hasn't been given an easy assignment.
"In my head, I've pitched against some of these guys before," Oswalt said, "so I know kind of a way to get some of those guys out."

Hopefully Roy O knows the above more than just "kind of" and won't disappoint.

Switching between this, the Rockets, and studying/writing a philosophy paper.
Roy gave up a baserunner (don’t know how he got it), but that’s it in the first inning so far (2 out).
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
k's the third
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Roy isn't going to let these guys score!
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
Kevin Youkilis doesn't look as cool
without the beard. Looks less like a lumberjack at the plate.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Wright's on!
Hit a homer, Dunn!!
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
Take the bat off your shoulder, Dunn!!
stupid.
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
oswalt
so far so good!
EveryHoustonTeamRox! - March 8, 2009
Grah..
come on, guys. Get Oswalt some runs.
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
that'll keep him
from leaning
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Fly out, ground out, ground out.
Nothing happening for Venezuela
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
none for us, either
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
So this pitcher, Armando Galarraga
finished 4th in voting for AL Rookie of the Year last year…
hrm…
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
he had a pretty good season last year
signed by the Expos a decade ago.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
hrm
Venezuela is getting something going… back to back hits.
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
That's no good...
back to back to back singles…
1-0 Venezuela… :(
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
woohoo
Adam Dunn!
C’mon, USA, score some runs!
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
I'm going to take credit for that
Dunn hauling ass on the error, 2-1 USA
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
gonna score that as a standard triple
no error
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
2-1 USA
At least we got a couple in.
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
Oswalt having issues locating his fastball
velocity isn’t a problem though.
goingforthecorner - March 8, 2009
yeah
not the best outing
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Shit
Walk and a double.
Runners on 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out.]
Not good.
entropic soul - March 8, 2009

Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009

Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
ehh
oh well…all stros are struggling this spring, except hawkins! he can still get the win!
EveryHoustonTeamRox! - March 8, 2009
American pitchers just struggling to find their locations
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Pedroia has been pretty disappointing
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
as has Chipper Jones
I’d typically be happy about that…
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Wait
how about, instead of taking Rollins out, you take Jones out and play Jeter and 3rd, where his defense isn’t as much of an issue.
Or, even better, put Wright at 3rd and DH Jeter.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Great.
I hate Jeter.
Hes no good.
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
no good in the field
but a fantastic hitter.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
"Adam Dunn not very happy with that call"
No kidding. Very audible “FUCK!” from Dunn.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
What call?
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
2-0 pitch
pretty low. Called as a strike
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Bases loaded!!! no outs!
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
RBI Walk!!!!
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
yes!
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
No.. i liked the pitcher they were using before...
Damn pitching change.
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
8-3!!
hahaa
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
8 runs so far this inning
Youkalis homers!!!
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
Great save
from Pedroia
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
That was pretty impressive.
ol Pete - March 8, 2009
Dunn homer!
The Pride of New Caney getting it done.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
that was a monster shot, too
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
I wonder how well the Nats will do this year.
ol Pete - March 8, 2009
There's only so much
even a good team can do with both the Phillies and Mets in their division. But I haven’t really looked at their roster since the end of the season. I don’t expect spectacular improvement.
Man, I really wish the Astros had traded for him back in 2005.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
true
I just think a lot of fans will see their team having a series against the Nats and getting a surprise some of the time. They have some young guys coming up and got a couple decent guys in trade.
ol Pete - March 8, 2009
You know,
I really don’t get why, when they have a DH spot available, Dunn is playing in the field. Surely having Jeter play LF would be worth putting Dunn’s glove on the bench.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Maybe they don't want to insult Jeter
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
probably
BUT HE’S TEH CAPTAIN!!!!
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
This might be a dumb question...
but were there any other 1B invited? I know DeRosa and Dunn can play 1st, but other than Youkilis, they don’t have any players who primarily play 1st.
Just curious…
TexSkins - March 8, 2009
I don't think so
But they’ve got a bunch of third basemen, so I guess it works out. And I know Dunn’s being playing as a first baseman occasionally for Washington in spring training.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
I'm not sure Braun should be sliding that hard into 2nd
Not in a glorified, blowout exhibition game.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
I was just thinking that the Braves fans probably aren’t thrilled that Chipper strained his oblique. So, yeah…
ol Pete - March 8, 2009
C'mon Granderson!
Hit a homer so we can wrap this bitch up!
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Just needed to get it a bit more down the line… now just a single by Jeter.
ol Pete - March 8, 2009
oh well
ol Pete - March 8, 2009
Stubby Clap accidentally the whole Wasabi
no one cares, Phillips.
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
15 -5
putting a beating on these guys
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
I take a leak and someone ends the game…
ol Pete - March 8, 2009
No mercy rule?
ol Pete - March 8, 2009
I believe they would have to finish the inning first.
entropic soul - March 8, 2009
woohoo
U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
eat shit, Chavez!
Only_A_Lad - March 8, 2009
Ding!
We win!
