in real life who uses that thing. I’m convinced it’s entirely a media-created phenomenon. I hadn’t even heard of the thing until the news talked about it.
I’m in the internet’s key demographic: 20 year-old college student. By the time the media got around to talking about Facebook, everyone in my high school had had a profile for a long time. Just seems odd to me.
it really took off 2 years ago during SXSW, w/ a bunch of web 2.0 type people. there is obv some overlap among that crowd, but not entirely the same. it’s hit pretty big in political circles as well as media types (there are a few of the MLB.com writers on twitter)
alright, this is how I see it. I think Pujols will, after his career is over (and assuming he’s not like 4 years older than we think he is) will go down as possibly the greatest hitter in the history of the game. And so I don’t think that most people realize quite how good he is.
geary in the game
Only_A_Lad - April 10, 2009
Hampton gone - Geary in
Hope that’s just precautionary on Coop’s part.
bwhite2323 - April 10, 2009
well, he was up to 90 pitches
and he’s a bit injury prone, so I’d say it’s probably just precautionary.

"the way Mark McGwire was the man..."
McGwire was a very overrated player. If anything, I’d say Pujols is underrated.
Only_A_Lad - April 10, 2009
Really?
Stephen Higdon - April 10, 2009
Nevermind
I read that as Pujols being overrated.
Stephen Higdon - April 10, 2009
yeah,
by the general public, I mean. Pujols is seen as a great hitter, but I don’t think most people understand just how great he is.
Only_A_Lad - April 10, 2009
McGwire probably should make it to the HOF....
but BBWA is spooked by steroids issue.
clack - April 10, 2009
I don't care about steroids
and I think McGwire should be in the HoF. And I think that eventually (maybe it might take a decade) the voters will get over it.
Only_A_Lad - April 10, 2009
I think McGwire's best chance (mathematically)
is with the veteran’s committee – years from now.
bwhite2323 - April 10, 2009
pujols can't be considered underrated
can you find a place where he’s mentioned as NOT being one of the top players in baseball?

Just citing a place.
Stephen Higdon - April 10, 2009
yeah, most of the people I read view him as the best hitter in baseball.
but then I mostly read sabermetric type web sites.
clack - April 10, 2009
I'm not saying people don't think he's a fantastic player
but he’s certainly been routinely underrated by the sports media. See the Ryan Howard 2006 MVP.
Only_A_Lad - April 10, 2009
