Astros end a long and disappointing week

To be honest, I'm glad I lost the last half of the game on the radio as I drove back to Georgetown.  I'm not sure I could have taken that kind of inexorable depression.

Since I didn't hear or see much of the game, I don't have much to say.  At least the first week is over, and week two has to be better than week one—right?

Coming up, we travel to Pittsburgh to square off against the Pirates.  Moehler squares off against Zach Duke at 12:35 CDT tomorrow.

Insult to injury

Randy Wolf’s start today:

7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 HR, 2 BB, 5 K

the decision to not offer him arbitration

made no sense whatsoever.

Like many of Wade's other decisions last offseason.

No. Moehler (0-1, 37.80 ERA) vs. Duke (1-0, 1.42 ERA)

hey, it's early.

not time for depression yet.

I've been watching the ESPN game, Brewers-Cubs...

Did you see Reed Johnson’s catch of Prince Fielder’s attempted grand slam? That is one of the better leaping catches over the outfield wall that I’ve seen. It reminded me of Matthews’ catch of Lamb’s HR attempt a few years ago. The wall has holes in it where Johnson used his spikes to climb the wall.

In his next at bat, the Brewers’ reliever hit Johnson. The broadcasters discussed whether that was retribution for the catch. Joe Morgan doubted that it was retirbution, and he is probably right. But the Brewers’ fans must have thought so. They cheered when he was hit, and I saw fans behind the plate yelling at Johnson after he was hit.

Video Clips of Today's Game

Here’s a video of the kind of “ball not bouncing our way” sort of thing that kept the ’Stros from getting many baserunners.

Here’s a video of Matsui giving the middle finger to last year’s -6.7 UZR/150.

Three runs over six innings adds up to one hard-luck loss for Wandy.

it looks to be a long, long season, astros fans.

and dq, what do you do in georgetown? i went to school there at southwestern. moved down to austin just a few months ago, actually.

I'm still in school at SU

Graduating in May…three weeks left…so much to do.

awesome. well, congrats and good luck. i personally couldn’t get enough of academia (or, rather, i missed it in its year of absence from my life) and trucked on to grad school at ut.

that school’s so small, we may have had a class together. i’m relatively unimpressionable in a classroom setting, but i bet we would at least recognize each other.
