I would claim to have witnessed the glory that was Roy Oswalt's performance against the Colorado Rockies tonight, but I can't. I'm...like four or five of no TV as I sit in my empty, empty house at school, but I can read box scores and the four or five texts I got tonight in regards to Oswalt's performance. Roy Oswalt was, so I hear and gather, brilliant.
His line just about sums it all up pretty, pretty nicely:
7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 HR (it's Coors Field, forgive the guy),* 8 K, 2 BB, 102 pitches
Of those 102 pitches, Roy located 71 of them for strikes. The things that I like about this that are beyond the generic numbers are:
- 4 K:BB, who doesn't love that?
- 7.84 K/100 is stellar (click here if you have no idea what I just said)
- Only giving up six hits at Coors Field is impressive in it's own right.
After all the shock waves, indictments, trade talk, etc., that came with Roy's last outing, there's nothing more refreshing than seeing, or rather hearing about, Roy go out and just perform. That's why we love him and that's why he's our Ace.
The Rest of the Game:
- Lance Berkman continued to hit, which still leaves me wondering as to why it was that he was dropped in the line up. His average still isn't superb, but in the last few weeks he's pretty much turned it around at the plate. Of course, it's hard to argue with two wins on the heels of this change, but I think it's a little premature to connect correlation to causation on a two game sample size.
- Carlos Lee jacked a homerun and continues to just be lights out at the plate in the early going this season.
- Miguel Tejada continues to worry me because I'm afraid he's just sacking away hits for a second half slump. I would be really, really appreciative if the Astros brass would pay credence (is that even appropriate usage) to this study of mine from the offseason.
Alright, that's about all I can contribute having not seen a single pitch of the game. Here are the rest of SBN's new goodies, take advantage of them...I know I am:

Carlos Lee got his first RBI in 13 or 14 games
That long between RBIs cannot qualify as llghts out hitting.
I wish Berkmand woud bat fourth and move Lee to fifth (leave Pence third)
Rockies had baserunners in the first five innings, usually two of them. Roy seemed to get stronger after the Astrso gave him a nice 2-0 and then 4-1 lead.
Did Berkman hit?? I recall an RBI single? Did he get another hit?
It was a nice win. With a run against Rockies , Pirates, and Arizona, Astros have the chance to improve their record tremendously.

Oswalt may have chnaged his pitch calling a bit.
Jim Deshais made the point that Roy seemed to be throwing more curveballs in normal FB situations, and vice versa. He pointed to several hitters getting curves on their first pitch. JD said the FB was still good, and has been good all year, with the curveball providing the difference this time. JD liked the pattern in this game, because he believes opposing hitters have been told to wait for a fastball they can hit.
Noticeably, Oswalt was throwing his FB at 96 on a number of occasions, according to FSN’s gun.

Justifiable
I believe that moving Berkman down in the order will help everyone else and him. Putting Pence behind Tejeda, Lee behind Pence, Berkman behind Lee. With it like this, I believe that Cooper is justified because this will give them all the bat behind them to see better pitches. Look at what Lee did last night. Better pitches, better hits.
