The Crawfish Boxes

Monday Morning Astros, etc. Round Up

Because it's the All Star Break, we'll lead off with a few recaps of the season thus far from the Chronicle.  Don't worry, though, we'll have all the mid-season wrap up stuff soon enough (i.e. we'll give you numbers and stuff to think about ):

While we get to digesting the first half, enjoy tonight's Home Run Derby.

Poll
Did you think the Astros would be .500 at the All Star Break on June 1? (No cheating and going all revisionist history on me)
I can't tell a lie: No.

i posted this may 26th, the title “Dont Give UP”

Manny Acta was fired this morning

as some of you had anticipated

Hire him, Drayton!

And fire Coop, dammit!

I don't normally like mixing things up mid-season for a .500 team.....

But, I dislike coop and really like Acta’s style. He seems like the opposite of Coop. I think he could demand the respect and attention of the vet’s that coop can’t.

bring him on

I voted yes on the Astros at .500

I know somewhere along the line I thought the Astros could be arond .500 at the break because of the weak June-July schedule. I don’t remember the date of that thought but, searching the TCB archives, on June 1 I wrote

" It was a nice win. With a run against Rockies, Pirates, and Arizona, Astros have the chance to improve their record tremendously."

That sounds like I was optimistic on June 1 about Astros short-term future.

Nobody watched the futures game?

Some bum did pretty well.

did you see the Castro article below this one?

This quote from the MLB.com video had me scratching my head for a second:

“he is also on pace to bat .300 for the entire season”

Batting Average is a rate stat. It doesn’t make sense to talk about “on pace” unless you’re talking about someone who had a rough start to the beginning of the year and who has made consistent, sustainable improvement in his game.

Pence is on pace for a 20 HR season, though, which would be nice.

Hahaha

I really tried to think about how you’d come up with phrasing it like that. My head hurt after about 30 seconds.
