I would assume that it is an option that the front office is considering. Not that I think that they should, but with the next few weeks being of such extreme importance, anything can happen.
The farm system is in tatters, but has steadily improved over the course of just one year. Most of that improvement is in the lower levels, and I am not sure if any of our AA hitters' (besides Jason Castro) are all that enticing to the other 29 ML teams. In Round Rock, there are a few interesting pieces: most notably the top four starters, Paulino/Bazardo/Norris/Paulino, as well as catcher JR Tolwes and OF Brian Bogusevic. Would it make sense to send any number of them to a team for a proven hitter for the stretch drive?

BUT dont want either one…i dont wanna GREAT 1b who is a starter…just a decent1b that can be a backup…
also wouldnt mind giving up decent prospects for a new 3b (can put blum at 1b), 2b, or SP

I’m sorry, I couldn’t type that with a straight face.

I wonder about Bagwell's shoulder
or if McGiure is still juicing enough or maybe Bonds could play first. I bet Tony Gwinn Sr. Could still hit .320… j/k

well maybe you should talk to
The Diamonbacks about getting Chad Tracy, they’ve decided to play Whitsell instead at 1b, he had experience at both 3b and 1b and could probably be had for a mid level arm.

I agree on Scott Rolen
Drayton has been known to take on more salary during the middle of the season if his team is in it … and Rolen would only be a half year rental. We’d probably only have to give up B or C level prospects if we take on the money. Maybe Bogusevic and Manzella gets it done. Neither are great … but the Jays want a SS and Bogusevic shows potential even though he’s 25 already.
Move Blum to 1st for 2 weeks and when Berkman gets back you platoon Rolen and Blum.

I don't know about making a move
The talk of Rolen and Tracy make me think of Aubrey Huff and how well that trade worked out.
The teams over the next two weeks don’t scare me all that much: The Mets have injuries to several key players themselves. The Cubs are not as good as predicted and have several of their own flaws. The Cards also have their own issues, but if they make a move for Holliday could be a concern. Finally you have the Giants who have a good pitching staff but no offense. Not the easiest next two weeks, but not the most overwhelming either.
Maybe I’m just a little more calm now that they’ve swept the Cards, and did that largely without Lance. If Ed Wade were to make a move I’d rather him go and get a number 3 starter.

minor move
I think the Astros should make a minor move. Could use a 1b bat with some pop, who can also play another position. When Berkman comes back it’ll be nice to have a bench bat with some power. Maybe a Ryan Garko, Garret Atkins, Chad Tracy type player. Give up a midlevel prospect. Also, I’m not sure we should just assume that Lance will be back in 2 weeks. Sometimes these things linger, and it might take longer than that.
If no move is made, I’d rather see Chris Johnson get a shot at third with Blum playing some first base.

Chris Coste making a case he is the man you describe

I have a lot of confidence in Coste versus LHP. However, he isn’t as good against RHP. That’s why it would be nice if the Astros had a LH bat in the minors who could be paired up with Coste.
