"The last curveball in the fifth it kind of got me a little bit," Oswalt said of his back. "I was trying to get through the heart of the lineup in the sixth, but I didn't have enough to get through it. We're going to see how it feels tomorrow and then decide what we're going to do. It seems like we're kind of beating the bush right now."
"After the game, I went to lift weights," Berkman said.
There once was a guy named Manzella Who was really a very nice fella But day after day He got no chance to play And, come on, you're out of the playoff race, Miguel Tejada has a .655 OPS since the All-Star Break, he isn't getting any younger, you know exactly what he can and can't do, and I thought nobody was coming up unless he was going to contribute-ella. [apologies for the terrible formatting]
"I want to play as much as I can," said Matsui, who played in 1,143 consecutive games in Japan, the fifth-longest such streak in the country's history. "I'm not satisfied with 115." [emphasis added]
HLP Insert: Justin Bopp, of Beyond the Boxscore, was kind enough to pass along this graph/analysis which focuses on the Astros' payroll vs. their on field value. Unsurprisingly, it isn't pretty, and their outlook for the team isn't too optimistic. How does an 8 year rebuilding period sound??

I think you have the wrong link about Norris paying the Bengals’ bill. Where was it from?

Should be updated
But it’s from Footer’s blog. Sorry about the mix up, this was made before the coffee finished brewing.

I am hoping that next year Matsui really turns things around
His hitting has been picking up lately, for example. If he could go through the whole year batting over .250 and staying off the DL, that would be a pretty big improvement.

It'll be a contract year for him
so we just might get lucky

True.
He’s also the reason the right side of our infield has been competent (though not outstanding), unlike the left.

If Matsui plays next year
like he has this month
and Lance Berkman rebounds and stays healthy
and Hunter Pence learns to run the bases
and 2 or more of the younger pitchers come through big time
2010 will be a fun season

Hmm... maybe if you add the following
Ed Wade acquires, at least, a reliable #4 starter, preferably a #3.
Miggy Tejada is re-signed to play third base, or a decent free agent third baseman (e.g. better than Blum/Kepp/Johnson) is signed.
Then yes, it could be a very fun season indeed. But lots of ifs in that long equation.

More likely not even half of those things come true.
But sometimes the stars do align.
