***UPDATE***
Lance Berkman will have to undergo surgery to clean out debris in his left knee. The debris are apparently from the contusion he suffered at the start of camp and the surgery cannot be performed until a rash on the knee heels (from sliding into base).
Ed Wade is on record stating that he expects a 2-4 week recovery period, but that claim is later qualified with a "we don't really know" statement later on in the story. Apparenlty Dr. Linter can't tell how much junk he has to clean out of the knee until he gets in there.
To comfort ourselves in this hour of crisis, rest assured that should Berkman miss the start of the season, the fort will be masterfully held down by none other than Geoff Blum.
Grapefruit League Record for 2010 (which is meaningless anyway): 3-4
There's a distinct chance today's game gets rained out too. The Astros do have a split squad game on Saturday, so hopefully they'll be able to play then. We'll try to keep you updated on what's going on today.

Ed Wade says Berkman's knee will get scoped
To clear out some debris that they think is causing the contusion and fluid buildup. Says it’s a 2-4 week recovery kind of thing, Puma may or may not miss a few days at the beginning of the season.

“If this is the thing that we experience this spring with the greatest magnitude, then we’re in great shape.”

I kind of wondered if he needed the knee cleaned out. 2 – 4 week recovery sounds kind of optimistic but that wouldn’t be bad if it took that long.

Maybe optimistic, maybe not. From what I’ve read, recovery time on a scope can vary quite a bit. Some people claim to be running marathons after two weeks, for other people it takes a couple months. My guess is the most he’d miss would be all of April (22 games).
Hopefully it will be less than that, but at least this year we have Chris Shelton, who projects to bat better than Blum.

“We haven’t made any roster moves yet… every single guy represents some possibility…”
Praises Villar and Abad, says they’ve done a fantastic job, but says he’s going to have to “wrestle” them out of there (from Arnsberg’s coaching) presumably to get more experience in the minors.

any more news on getting the game in today?
someone who lives in Florida and comments on the Astrosdaily forum said he thinks there is little chance of getting the game in today because Central Florida is taking a drenching.

They just announced it’s canceled.
